TODAY IN BLACK HISTORY - Feb. 12

"Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee,
Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;
Shadowed beneath Thy hand,
May we forever stand,
True to our God,
True to our native land."
--James Weldon Johnson

On February 12, 1900, the song which would become known as the Black National Anthem, was written and composed by James Weldon Johnson and his brother J. Rosamond and was presented at a birthday party for President Lincoln. Check out the video above of Ray Charles performing an upbeat rendition of the song with his own signature flavor.
